Poetry: “The Betta I Love” – by Aure Ruediger
One star-filled night I made a wish,
And, in the morning, I had a betta fish.
It had a very pretty tank,
One that did not break the bank.
I tried to make it impressively flare,
But he gave me a rather aloof glare.
Still, I wanted him to compete in a show,
So I searched to find a helpful pro.
As the expert coached on betta care,
I listened attentively to better prepare.
Now every night, when readying for sleep,
My pet fish I devotedly keep.
He’s on the bed’s shelf above,
And I dream often of him — the betta I love.
